Heart of Mine came into being during a tough period for Phil. The lyrics describe the self-talk that helped him to respond rather than react. Heart of Mine is an infectious blues song beginning with the opening riff and the soaring slide guitar, to the hypnotic cowbell that ebbs and flows. “I’ve always enjoyed swampy sounding blues that is not depressing, but uplifting. I think we nailed it with this song. I’ve always enjoyed playing Heart of Mine with my band because it was enthusiastically received by our audiences when we road tested it,” said Phil Spence.
