Donovan Fourie embarked upon his spiritual journey with a guitar. Driven by the forces of folk, blues, reggae and ska Donovan’s music captures his adventures through life and his experiences of the world. His first solo album “Fire Within” delivers the soul of this young artist, taking you on a journey of connection through music; whilst documenting the process of becoming free from genre – an ideal that Fourie holds close whilst writing. Donovan’s music career manifested after four years of hard work on a skate boarding documentary. It was unfortunately never released. But Donovan sprung back into action with determination and commitment following a new avenue - music. Shortly after work on the documentary Donovan’s mother found herself in a pawn shop, buying her son a birthday present. That second hand electric guitar was a blessing that brought him to take his first steps down the path of music. He never turned back. His solo career progressed into the forming of Energy Related – Backed up by session drummer Storm Awesome Thomas and session bass guitarist Jeremy Howard. The fruit of this band’s labor is fresh, and chilled – “The Strings of Life”, the band’s firsts full length album is a testament to that, as is their previously released EP “Bluesy Mondays” featuring Nat Nat-Lee Kraemer vocals together with Fourie, Storm “Awesome” Thomas on drums, Byron Horn on bass guitar, and Alon Israelson on piano. Their second full length album is on the way after signing a record deal with wired Sound Studio on the 14th of May 2012. Donovan hopes that through this album his listeners will be able to relate and learn from his experiences and in doing so connect them.
