Personal profile

Solom Willy is a performing artist, guitarist and a music producer and now Durban-based musician. Born in the City of Warri in Nigeria and was first exposed to music in his early age as a member of the children's church choir. He later learnt to play drums and keyboards, and in his secondary school days he developed more interest on the lead guitar, studying the instrument at a local music school. Formed his band in 2009 and his music career took centre stage when he was selected in a talent search audition at the durban SABC to perform at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Fan Festival Stage in Durban and the judges where Neil Comfort, Malcolm Nheko and they said they were blown away by his performance and gave him more platform as a new talent. He also received an Award from the Department of Arts and Culture KwaZulu Natal Region for band search 2011 at the durban pavilion. He has performed throughout Nigeria and South Africa, and Australia with keychange music project; he performed in nine cities in Australia in 2009 as a lead guitarist in the South African Zulu Choir band. He is planning a debut single, following by an album, later in the year. Solomon Willy has worked with great musicians doing both studio recordings and live music sessions in corporate events, gospel music concert, jazz festivals, jazz Centre's etc. and he has done guitar recording sessions on many popular albums both in Gospel and Circular music such as: Naimakay / album title "Umsembenzi", Nomusa Dhlomo & Vuka Afrika / album title "I'm Standing", and many more. His influence include: Norman Brown, Fela Kuti, Salif Keita, Tony Grey, Louis Mhlang, George Benson, Santana, Mike Okri, Victor Wiafo, Angelique Kidjo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Rex Jim Lawson and more. Some of the most exciting moments of his career were performing at the annual Durban Jazz Festival, Ugu Jazz Festival, 2010 Wold Cup Celebration Performance and many others. Solomon Willy profile has been published on several South African magazines and news papers on numerous occasions. Endorsed by Parker Guitar South Africa and JVB Strings Australia. He's a member of SAMRO, KUMISA and also a session guitarist for the following group: African Sinakho Disability Theatre, Soul Trill, Jazz Connections.
