Personal profile

Most of my work involves advising and negotiating all types of media and entertainment contracts for performing artists, composers and media companies. During the last few years I have also advised major international Oscar and Grammy-winning performers and composers, as well as young DJ’s, producers and bands starting out in the media and entertainment business. I am especially keen to develop the firm’s reputation for signing new creative talent to management, recording and publishing deals. More recently I have been looking at sponsorship and endorsement deals for celebrities and I am now a Registered Lawyer under The FA Football Agents Regulations. I also have extensive experience of providing legal and strategic advice on a range of commercial matters, especially where copyrights are involved, including acquisitions, structuring, shareholders agreements, security documentation and joint ventures. My corporate clients include independent record labels, music publishers, management companies, theatrical agents and event managers. Last year I co-wrote Music Business Agreements (3rd edition), the legal textbook for other professionals working in the music business.

We provide cost effective and commercial legal advice in the fields of media and entertainment law (England and Wales/New York State). We typically work on a fixed fee basis, as this suits the requirements of our clients. We are also used to working to very tight deadlines. Clients we have advised include PLC's concerning the protection of intellectual property rights, to some of the country's highest profile musicians, events, film, recording and publishing companies, television personalities, media and advertising agencies, magazines and commercial enterprises. At the other end of the spectrum, we also represent and encourage new performing artists, producers and managers, and aim to be the first point of legal contact for all creative projects irrespective of their budget.
