Personal profile

After starting with glue as a sign writer and visual merchandiser before falling into set design for the Country Music Awards of Australia, Barry has been involved with the Festival since its first few years of establishment and today, is the Festival Manager. In 1973 they the Country Music Awards of Australia were started in the Tamworth Town Hall and a colleague of Harley's designed and installed the sets in the first two years. But from 1975, he decided he didn’t want to do them anymore, so he asked if Barry would do them. Fast forward to 1980 where Barry worked with 2TM (local radio station) in marketing and after years of seeing and helping the Festival develop, Barry Harley eventually became the Festival Manager, and still is today.

Company profile

The Toyota Country Music Festival was first established in 1972 and is recognised as the largest and longest country music festival in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere. The Festival is held across 10 massive days in January each year with hundreds of artists and thousands of shows, including the iconic Country Music Awards of Australia, commonly known as the Toyota Golden Guitar Awards, which are the only industry affiliated country music awards in Australia and the biggest celebration of Australian country music talent. The Festival is like no other, with the streets of Tamworth being transformed for the Festival each year, meaning there is no gated entry and anyone can be a part of the atmosphere.
