Personal profile

Kgomotso le Roux: Co-Owner of IKS Consulting & Promotions Education: Bmus Degree - Ethnomusicologist Artist Manager Booking Agent Experience in the creative industries: 10 years Kgomotso's experience in the business of the arts goes back to when she was a brand promoter for Meta 4 Marketing and Advertising. After graduating from Witwatersrand University with an Ethnomusicology Bmus degree, her research in Venda about the state of democracy in Vhurivhuri inspired her to embrace activities and initiatives aimed at encouraging businesses to be interdependent rather than competitive. Her honors degree covered courses including Arts Marketing and Business Studies, Professional Music Studies, Digital Music Technology (studio sound engineering) and Composition. As a first year music student at Wits, she won the Dean of Humanities Best Vocalist Award. She sang and wrote songs with the likes of Mpumi Dlhamini (Sony BMG - her song titled "Bana" topped the South African charts for 3 weeks), Sibongile Khumalo, Themba Mkhize, Carlo Mombelli, Lawrence Matshiza and Vusi Khumalo. Working at the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO), Kgomotso enjoyed building relationships with the best musicians in the country and understanding the legal aspects of the music business. Here she worked in a team managing national and international meetings, workshops and events including the annual SAMRO Overseas Scholarships Event and being the coordinator for the South African Coalition for Cultural Diversity (now under the Arterial Network) that is led by respected arts consultants based in South Africa. When she wasn’t working at SAMRO, she managed, performed as a lead singer and became a booking agent for a band called Echoes of Soil, however, Kgomotso’s passion was always to work behind the scenes of the entertainment industry. Her networks with highly skilled South African artists, arts consultants and organisations have a national and international reach. She currently manages Tlale Makhene who has just performed at the Berlin Miriam Makeba Memorial Festival and is currently on tour with William Kentridge in Europe for the Refuse the Hour Tour. This year, she also managed the Sibikwa Arts Indigenous Orchestra who performed in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Mpumalanga, Grahamstown, Bloemfontein, Amsterdam and the United Kingdom. She also managed their educational program involving the production of an educational booklet on African Indigenous Music for the arts and culture subject. With a strong consulting team, committed stable of artists, a sound track record and a strong operations team who are dedicated to the IKS Consulting and Promotions arts agency, she is able to offer excellence in managing research projects, organising entertainment for corporate events, weddings and private functions.
