Greek musician Alekos Vretos, known for his expertise on the oud and piano as well as his composing skills, hasbeen blending diverse musical influences including jazz, Arabic, Greek, and Latin styles into a captivating fusion.As a bandleader, Alekos has developed a unique sonic atmosphere, keeping the traditional sounds of instrumentslike the oud and nay at the forefront while expanding them through innovative jazz improvisation and dynamicrhythmic development. Alekos' debut solo album "Mergin'", released in 2009 following his work with the Meliti Ensemble, was warmlyreceived by audiences and critics alike. This bold and tasteful fusion of jazz and Arabic improvisation pushesthe boundaries of oud playing. The album features a strong jazz sensibility seamlessly combined with the rich,traditional Arabic flavor, with contributions from renowned musicians such as Bassam Saba and Takis Paterelis. "Mergin'" was released through Alekos' own independent label and artist management company, Jadeo Music,which showcases world, jazz, and classical artists. Alekos has been recognized as one of the 100+1 mostinfluential figures in the Greek music scene. Alekos has graced prestigious stages around the world, including the Herodion and Athens Concert Hall inGreece, Berklee Performance Center in the US, and various renowned jazz clubs, to widespread critical acclaimfor both his playing and composing. He has collaborated with legendary Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis aswell as other acclaimed artists across genres and cultures. Alekos has, also, been working as a concert producer and promoter for more than 20 years.
