Pandit Shyam Sundar is in the tradition of the great Maestros of classical music. He is undoubtedly among the best classical singers of his generation. His accolades include such terms as ‘jewel’, ‘magic’ from the critics. Dr. Prithwindranath Mukhopadhyay, presently a citizen of Paris and the grandson of freedom fighter Baghajatin has remarked about Panditji – “ In the perspective of the Indian Classical music, Shyam Sundar’s sonorous resonant voice furnishes an astounding spell ………. Just as Shyam Sundar has attained the recognition of a globally accredited Indian artist by transgressing the geographical peripheries in modern times, likewise the sportive music-enthusiasts of the external world will be awaiting his return with candid deference ……..”He has been rather justifiably entitled as a “Jewel” or “Gem” by Sri Probhash Sen, the deceased artist of Santiniketan. Today Punditji is an internationally renowned personality with the mellifluous tunes of his melodious voice and the opulence of his scriptural music. With the aspiration of disseminating the ideals of tranquility and amity, he has been mesmerizing the august audience in the conclave of world – music through his supple and unprecedented intonal renovation and refurbishment. Recently he has journeyed France being granted with the French Government Research Scholarship. In correlation with the experimentation and research works conducted at the famous Cete Internationale Des Arts in Paris, he fostered the opportunity of exchanging and reciprocating notions and ideas on classical music with the distinguished and the revered artists of the various countries. The topic of his research was the resurrection of the obsolescent music of the Middle Ages and how can this music be circulated and dispersed to the entire globe – he has been unfalteringly striving for this.
