Do you know if someone from the old MIDEM team is working for the new MIDEM?

Hi. The news is not good. I spoke to a few people and no one had any dates. I asked Cannes itself and got a reply about the NRJ Music Awards! What I understand is that Cannes bought the brand name but cannot use it to do exactly the same thing, ie compete with RX by organising a trade fair. So what can they do with it? That part is not clear. A festival? On a sidenote, Cannes has just announced that it will run the first Cannes Gaming Festival next year. Expect red carpets, awards, prizes, etc. I mention it as one of the award sections will be for music in a video game. Hi Michael, many thanks for this update. However, it is strange that they bought the name and after they do nothing with this brand. I think their aim should be to bring visitors to Cannes outside of the season, as MIDEM did it in former times with the dates end of January. Let´s see what´s happen in 2024, but for 2023 it is too late. Best Mario

So despite what I had thought, Midem is actually set to return - and its original January date - in 2023. Hi Michael, Thank you for this update. For January 2023 the annoucement might be a little bit late in my view. But let´s see.

Since Midem is restructuring to a French city government control event, it might be interesting to have a few specific ideas discussed in this group. What should Midem be for this community?

From my perspective, Midem was already ticking many of my boxes: * international * covering many facets of the business * lots of useful conferences. The only thing I'd add to the wishlist is more people from the live sector, as it has become such a huge part of the business over the past few years. In Europe, they tend to hang out at the Eurosonic conference in the Netherlands. It was handy when they also came to Midem.

This sounds as though they are still feeling their way forward. So it is not going to be anything like previous Midems in 2023.
