My vote for best EV song of the past few years definitely goes to Loreen's Tattoo in 2023. Within a few seconds of the opening - with its spectacular camera twist - I told myself, "We have a winner - I can go to bed now". I didn't, as I was curious to see if any songs could match it. None could. There was a lot of excitement around Finland's novelty track by Käärijä on the night. But one could ask how a comedy track got this far in the contest in the first place. About "Tattoo" itself, it's a superbly arranged track with six writers. A total of about 30 musicians were involved (mostly a huge string section). In Loreen, they had a brilliant vocalist and performer who sang a large part of the song lying on her back - try it some time ;-).. One is entitled to one's opinion about what constitutes a good song (feel free to comment!), but one thing cannot by overlooked. "Tattoo" turned out to be a massive success on Spotify charts, which remain a good indication of what people actually listen to. Loreen also organised a tour on the back of the interest. This is not the goal of Eurovision (which is basically just a TV event). But it's nice when these things happen.
