BBC Scotland Award Winning Singer Song Writer Benny Tetteh-Lartey promoting latest album "See the Wonder" and EP "Living Is" Scottish folk singer-songwriter Benny Tetteh-Lartey played bass guitar & was vocalist in top Edinburgh band Makossa from 1987 to 1991. He toured Scotland, recorded film tracks for short film “Salome” by Lucy Enfield (sister of screen writer and comedian Harry Enfield). Played bass guitar and backing vocals for Dave Robb & The Filmmakers from 1991 to 1992. Toured in Berlin and northern Germany and fronted BTL as bass playing vocalist 1992 to 1994 along with Phil McGowan, Killian Steele and John Mathieson. Benny became a solo artist in 1995. He adapted the 12 string acoustic guitar bought for him by his late father into an 8 string and coined the phrase “Afro Scot Rock”. He completed his first BTL album “Don’t be Sad” in 1998, sharing centre stage with acclaimed singer songwriter Nick Harper (son of legendary Roy Harper) at London’s Twelve Bar in 1999. He was runner up in the BBC Scotland Tympanali Singer Songwriter Competition – a competition he went on to win in 1998 with the song “Injustice”; a painful story which describes events surrounding the untimely death of his uncle Alex Tetteh-Lartey who was killed on a London Street in August 1996. Famously gatecrashed Scotland’s premier music event T in the Park 1997… and was asked back again! He even managed an appearance on the national TV talent show “Star for a Night” in 1999. The next couple of years were just as busy. He released his second (demo) album aptly named “Unpolished”, played several live radio sessions including BBC Radio Scotland’s The Movie Café, and formed a new group called “The Afro Scot Beat” in 2007. One of his crowing achievements during this period was designing and constructing a unique handcrafted 26 string instrument he calls “The “Combuitar”. His live credentials continue to go from strength to strength. He headlined the opening for the Africa in Motion 2007 music event (and closed it in 2008). In April 2009 he was invited to perform at The F1 Grand Prix world event in Bahrain along with 76 of the worlds leading performers. His “creative Records Uk” label was short listed and won the SME Achievement Award in 2009. Benny provided audio engineering services on BAFTA Award winning film DVD Crying with Laughter directed by Justin Molotnikov Nov 2010 Winner of professional music category at Hitachi Europe sponsored Driven Creativity competition with combuitar song “You Can’t Hide” Invited to support Joan Armatrading on her 2012 UK tour at The Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow.
