Using music to breakdown cultural barriers, audiovisual artists Addictive TV created Orchestra of Samples to bring together as many musicians as possible from all backgrounds, both cultural and musical - an impractical task in the real world but not in the digital world of sampling. Started in 2010 and described by The Times “ingenious and compelling” and by Cultured Vultures as “a glimpse into the very essence of music” the project has so far recorded and filmed over 250 musicians in 30 countries. Discovering all manner of rare, traditional and newly invented instruments from Senegal to Colombia, Kazakhstan to Romania, the project samples the ever-growing archive to produce new music of extraordinary fusions, creating a dialogue between different musical cultures and very different instruments that wouldn’t normally be heard together. A unique musical journey without borders.
