I wrote the song including the melody back in 1996. It was a completely different version - a completely different song than this one that Knut Severin made from it in 2021 in "his" Reinhard Mey style. If anyone is interested in this text, I would like to offer the original version, but I don't have a recording of it yet. Why is it said that great love only comes once in a lifetime? This attitude probably comes from the generations before us, when a man and a woman married young and then stayed together their entire lives, through ups and downs, in good times and in bad. Was that always true love until the end? Who knows. She ran the house and he was outside, they didn't meet all day - except maybe at mealtime. Where and why should they get into major conflicts? As for today's relationships, I don't believe in them anymore. On the contrary. I think everyone is happy with the same partner for a maximum of 10 years - and that's already a long time - and for the rest of their lives (I don't mean afterwards, but overall) they get along and function. And the many long-distance relationships today, which are usually not possible otherwise for professional reasons, only increase the statistics. There are always exceptions. So just when you used to carry on anyway and hope that it would somehow work out, many people no longer do that. Some delay separations for convenience and security and fear of change. But once you have taken the step, you realize that these were the wrong reasons to maintain a "love" and a new one is already waiting for you! And it can be just as big and just as deep because you are always there with your whole heart, because this new partner is important to you, because you have hope again, because you believe!
