Perfil pessoal
When Steffen Knauss enters the stage you can tell by the look on his face that he loves playing the bass. No matter what musical style he plays - he is always locked into the groove and supplies the bottom end his musical colleagues appreciate him for. Steffen’s groove vocabulary ranges from rock fusion in Yasi Hofers Band (Germanys young guitar virtuoso with strong bonds to Steve Vai) to blues with Lee Mayall (nephew of the godfather of british blues John Mayall), soul and funk with singer Rick Washington (Lenny Kravitz, Joe Walsh…) to traditional latin music with cuban songwriter Javier Herrera. Steffen started playing the bass in 1983. Only 4 years later he already attended the Musicians Institute of Technology Summerschool Bass Program in Hollywood California as one of the youngest foreign bass students ever. In 1990 he returned to the US and studied at the Grove School of Music in Van Nuys, Ca. During his stay in L.A. he worked as a freelance bass player where he had the chance to perform with numerous international artists like Cecile Bonardi, Cougar Estrada, Denny Weston Jr, Barry Robinson, Joachim Tomark … „I’ve been playing the bass for more than 30 years now and I enjoyed every second. I just love the challenge in finding the right feel and groove for every song and artist I accompany. I don’t care about nationality, color of your skin or age - as long as we’re having fun playing music together I’m happy“.
