Personal profile
Born in Washington, D.C., I spent the first four years of my life in Alexandria, Virginia before moving across the Potomac river to Fort Washington, Maryland. Southern Maryland was still quite rural back then, dominated by tobacco fields, swamps and forests. Our family home was in one of the early suburban communities that began to spread like crabgrass throughout those verdant lands. We didn't have much, but lacked nothing that really mattered. I was infected - incurably - with a love of music at an early age. No matter where I was in life, music was the missing link, the puzzle piece that made everything else fit. D.C. itself is the crossroads of the fertile musical landscape that lies between the Shenandoah mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. It has always been a multi-faceted city that is rich in cultural and musical diversity. Washington, D.C., and the surrounding metro area has been home to numerous influential artists, such as Duke Ellington, Marvin Gaye, Danny Gatton, Nils Lofgren, Cass Elliot, Roberta Flack, Robert Gordon, Chuck Brown, Eva Cassidy, John Fahey, Roy Buchanan, Van McCoy, Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen, Billie Holliday, David Byrne, Henry Rollins and Dave Grohl just to name a few. Others, such as Patsy Cline, Link Wray, Tori Amos, Emmylou Harris and Roy Clark, started their careers there. D.C. has given birth to some music genres such as Go-Go and harDCore, and the metro area has also been a hotbed of other styles such as Bluegrass, Funk, Rockabilly, and progressive/Indie rock. It is the musical equivalent of a patchwork quilt, full of vibrant color and texture. This diversity in and around Washington fundamentally influenced my own musical tastes and orientation. My musical credo: know and respect the roots, but be open to new ideas. Whatever the flavor of the day, I believe there is only one kind of music worth listening to: good music - regardless of the category or style. I now live and work from my home in Bavaria, just outside of Munich. Half a world away and musically enriching in its own unique way. Music is still the element that lets it all make sense.
