Personal profile
Born in Salvador-Bahia, in the northeast of Brazil, LÍVIA MATTOS is an accordionist, singer-songwriter and performer. After many years working as guest accordionist with globally renowned artists, such as Rosa Passos, Badi Assad, Chico Cesar, Symphonic Orchestra of Bahia among others, Mattos released her first album as a songwriter in 2017. The album, “Vinha da Ida”, with edgy arrangements, inventive lyrics and unusual fusions of Brazilian roots and world rhythms, received great critical acclaim. Her music led to extensive touring around the world in festivals and projects such as "Akkordeon Festival Wien" (Austria/2015); "International Macau Parade" (China/2018); "Cantos na Maré" (Galicia, Spain/2019); "Found Sound Nation's Onebeat Residency Program and Tour" (USA/2017), together with 24 musicians selected among thousands of candidates around the World. Over the last few years, Livia has also been awarded with a number of the most competitive culture and arts prizes in Brazil, such as Natura Musical (2016); Rumos Itau Cultural (2017); Circuito SESI (2019) and BNDES Cultural (2019). In addition to being a charismatic frontwoman, Livia permanently transits in creations of other languages - such as dance, vídeo, theater and circus. Currently, she is directing a documentary on the tradition of circus music in Brazil, based on narratives by circus veterans.
